“OBO-SANPO” is a guided walking tour in which a Buddhist priest (“obo-san” in Japanese) takes visitors around the temple town of Nishi-hongwanji in Kyoto, a city which retains a rich character as the center of Japanese Buddhism. Looking at this part of the city from an obo-san’s perspective, the tour provides visitors with opportunities to gain a glimpse into how deeply Buddhism takes its roots in the daily life and mindset of the Japanese people. The primary goal of this project is to enhance cultural exchange between locals and visitors through the tour which will also revitalize the local community.
